Film Evaluation (Brick)

Evaluation
For this part of term two I was given a group work project which consisted of making a short film. I and my group (Fahidual, Guy, Elliot and Olivia) were given a set script for the story of a film we were assigned to produce. This project I really enjoyed as I’m clearly passionate about creating films in comparison to other types of media. This project has helped me decide on my pathway however I’m still a little stuck between film and animation; therefore I aim to do both. Within the group we had to decide between set roles for ourselves. The roles were as follow; producer, director, camera, editor and sound.
The roles we took on were:
Fahidual: director
Olivia: producer
Elliot: camera
Guy: sounds
Karl: editor
As a group we decided to alter the story of our film with an idea I came up with. I re wrote the script that seemed to fit and adapt better for the new idea in comparison to what was already written for us.  In terms of location we only needed to places to film at, what we wanted for our two locations was a plain white room for the mental patients room and an old derelict room for his mental state of mind. I decided to conduct some research into locations that I could possibly find around the Nottingham area, the first location I looked into I pretty much fell in love with, it was a perfect location for what we wanted it for. This location was an old abandoned building with plenty of history to it. I found this building really interesting but thrilling and dark at the same time, which I knew would create a strong impact for the audience. For the second location we decided to use a plain white lecture theatre in the Arkwright building, I was happy with the location we picked however beforehand we did find a location that would have been perfect however it wasn’t practical for us to use, the location was one of the sound booths in the Waverly building.
I enjoyed the production and editing the most when making this short film, because some of my peers decided to sit on the fence when it came to team work and doing their part, it allowed me to take more control and do what I enjoy the most which is working on all aspects of making a film such as directing, camera, editing etc. The challenges I faced was stress and rushing my allocated job because I was spending a lot of time doing a lot of the work other people in my group should have been doing or helping me with.  One thing I didn’t do is jump straight in, controlling what happens when producing our film, I always let my peers put as much input in as they wanted, and unfortunately it wasn’t enough from some of them. I’ve left it till now to talk about this as I didn’t want to fall out with my group as I got on with all of them, and they are really nice people however it was clear who had a passion for film and who didn’t.
I was most happy with the outcome of our film, I love being able to edit a number of videos putting them together creating a sequence, being able to see something I have put together specifically to show an audience. The feeling I get is so rewarding and that is why film is clearly something I’m passionate about.
